How to vote

🗳️ Voting in Person

  • Polling Day: For the 2025 local elections in England, polling stations will be open on Thursday, 1 May, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.Home Page+2Latest news & breaking headlines+2Wired-Gov+2

  • Polling Station: Your designated polling station will be listed on your poll card. If you haven’t received it or are unsure, you can find your polling station by entering your postcode on the Electoral Commission’s website: CLICK HERE

  • Voter ID Requirement: You must present an accepted form of photo ID to vote in person. Accepted IDs include a UK passport, driving licence, or certain concessionary travel passes. If you don’t have an accepted ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.
  • At the Polling Station: Upon arrival, provide your name and address to the staff. You’ll receive a ballot paper listing the candidates. Mark your choice with an ‘X’ in the box next to your preferred candidate, then fold the ballot paper and place it in the ballot box.

✉️ Voting by Post

  • If you’ve applied for a postal vote, you should receive your ballot pack before polling day.

  • Returning Your Postal Vote: Ensure your completed postal vote reaches your local Electoral Services office by 10:00 PM on polling day. You can return it by post or hand it in at your local council office or polling station.​
